| Introduction |
The Taiwan Scholarship Program is sponsored
by the Ministry of Education of Taiwan through the Taipei
Economic and Cultural Office in New Zealand. The purpose
of this program is to enhance academic exchange between
universities in New Zealand and Taiwan. |
| Value |
A student in an undergraduate program will be offered
a scholarship of NT$ 25,000(Approximate NZ$1, 250 per month).
A student in a graduate program will be offered a scholarship
of NT$ 30,000 (Approximate NZ$1,500 per month). |
| Number of Scholarship |
Two scholarships will be provided for the 2006-2007 academic
year. |
| Duration of Scholarships |
Maximum of four years for undergraduate programs; two
years for master programs and three years for Ph. D. programs.
If a student pursues an undergraduate and graduate program
or a Master and subsequently a Ph.D. program, the total
duration of the scholarships can not exceed 5 years. |
| Qualifications |
In order to be eligible for a scholarship, the applicant
must:
1. have a good academic record;
2. be a New Zealand citizen;
3. neither be Overseas Taiwanese/Chinese Students nor a
national of Republic of China (ROC);
4. not be currently receiving or be a past recipient of
a scholarship offered by other ROC government agencies or
institutions in Taiwan;
5. not have received Taiwan Scholarships of the same type;
6. not have had their scholarships cancelled in accordance
with these Guidelines;
7. not be an exchange student who are admitted in accordance
with academic cooperation agreements made between local
and foreign educational institutions;
8. Not be a foreign student in Taiwan who has already enrolled
at a Taiwanese university/college at their own expense.

| Application Process |
It is the applicant’s responsibility to ensure that his
or her scholarship application is complete. A complete application
must consist of the following documents:
• A completed Taiwan Scholarship Application Form, including
a study plan;
• Two letters of reference;
• Proof of highest level of education and transcripts;
• Proof of application to enroll at local universities/colleges
(e.g. a copy of the application form).
The letters of reference and transcripts must be sent directly
to the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in New Zealand
by the referees and the educational institution respectively.

| Deadline |
Deadline for submission of completed applications, letters
of reference and transcript is March 31, 2006 (postmarked). |
